88.01% of E-mail is Spam.
88.01%. Yes, it really is that high a figure. Xengo can protect you from this. Since August 2008 we have had a robust anti-spam and anti-virus solution in place for all e-mail accounts hosted with us.
During this time, we have processed 1,532,112 e-mails across our servers, of which 1,348,396 were flagged as spam.
During the same time, there have been 24,319 e-mails intercepted which contained a virus.

Anti-Spam SMTP Proxy
We protect e-mail accounts hosted on our servers from spam and viruses using ASSP (Anti-Spam SMTP Proxy). This software adaptively identifies spam, so you can be assured that new methods of sending spam are quickly picked up and your e-mail accounts protected. We employ these main three methods to protect your e-mail:
- Bayesian Filtering - Particular words have different probabilites of occuring in both spam and legitimate e-mails. Any e-mail which you mark as spam (if any gets through at all) will then modify the bayesian filter we use so that subsequent e-mails with the same set of words are marked as spam. The bayesian filter we use is currently very mature (over 18 months old) which means that the majority of spam e-mail you receive will have already been marked as spam (which means you would never receive it in the first place!);
- Penalty Box Trapping - If a spam e-mail is sent from a particular IP address during a set amount of time, any subsequent e-mails sent will be blocked;
- SPF (Sender Policy Framework) - This e-mail authentication system prevents spammers from stating that their e-mail was sent from a legitimate e-mail address (normal e-mail sending allows any computer to send an e-mail claiming to be from anyone).
Whenever you send an e-mail to a particular e-mail address, that e-mail address is 'whitelisted'. This means that that e-mail you receive from this e-mail address will never be blocked (unless you choose to block it later on of course). As well as providing this protection, you can also review all messages that have been marked as spam from your control panel at any time - they are stored for 28 days. You will also receive a daily report if there have been any e-mails marked as spam for your attention.
